Strain @ Rainfest [5/27/12]

Strain played on the third night of this year's Rainfest, and Wayne from Toxicbreed's Funhouse got it all on video.  I was highly anticipating their set, and they did not disappoint one bit.  As always, they sounded huge.

Ryker's - Kickback 7"

Ryker's was one of the biggest hardcore bands of Europe in the '90s, and were one of the main bands playing the so-called Eurocore style, together with bands such as Right Direction, Backfire and Brightside. Ryker's started in 1992, and were based in Kassel, Germany, one of the greyest, most depressing cities I've ever been to... Anyways, Ryker's got quickly picked up and signed by Lost & Found Records, who would release a bunch of records by Ryker's. The band would later on also release records on Raw Records (a German subsidiary of Warner/WEA) and Century Media. However, before all of that, Ryker's self-released their 'Kickback' 7" in 1993 on their own Strike Records (or Strikelike Records, quite hard to make out on the 7" labels), which I ripped here. These songs would later be re-recorded for their 'Payback Time' MCD on Lost & Found Records in 1994, with 3 additional songs. In 2000 the band folded, also because bass-player Chris wanted to focus more on his label, Kingfisher Records. They have done some reunion shows in past years and there was also talk of touring and all, but that never happened. I didn't keep up with the bands recordings after the first releases, which were great but I got a bit tired of the style after a while as almost every other band out here in the Netherlands played it at some point. But if you like what you hear, definitely check out the aforementioned 'Payback Time' MCD as well as the 'Brother Against Brother' CD, also released on Lost & Found in 1994, they're definitely great.

Dead Wait Interview - Clear Path Zine #1, 1994

Quick interview with Dead Wait from Clear Path zine #1 back in 1994. This was folded, half-size zine so the interview is relatively short (2 pages) so here's to a quick read with Dead Wait.

Ignite with Joe Nelson on vocals at Club 8 1/2 in Fullerton, CA (1993)

Came across this photo (first time I'd ever seen it) on the Facebooks today, so I figured I'd share.  This is the one and only Ignite show that I've ever been to.  Mind you, I've WANTED to see 'em since then (and even went as far as to buy tickets to see 'em in 2006 only to have a family emergency sideline it) but I just haven't yet.  For those of you who dig Joe Nelson era Ignite, video from this show filmed by yours truly is included in the documentary Orange County Hardcore Scenester coming out on DVD sometime this year (I promise!).

Party Squad Podcast

My buddy Jason hit me up to let me know he and his friend Miller have launched their podcast "Party Squad Podcast". For those of you that don't know Jason has done time on the drums in Powerhouse (FL), Where Fear and Weapons Meet, Judas Factor, 108 and a slew of others. Always something interesting to say, this thing is pretty much the anti-PC but it's quite funny so check it out of have a chance. The newest episode went live tonight and discusses musical idols.

Threadbare - live in NYC [5/12/12]

The always great hate5six was on hand for the Threadbare show in NYC last week, and now video of their entire set has been uploaded.

Drowningman's Two Unreleased Songs

I received an anonymous email recently that included 2 unreleased Drowningman songs. Not a lot of info was given in the email but here's what I did receive:

"These songs were recorded around 2002 and I don't really remember if it was going to be for a 7 inch with Rev or if it was going to be an EP. Two of the songs ended up on the Law Of Inertia release "Learn To Let It Go". That track 4 is one of those songs on it and Simon redid the vocals eventually, that one was called Where The Heart Is. This was recorded at the Outpost."

These are supposedly also recorded before their "Best Record Ever" recording that never came out. Not a lot of info to work with but still cool to have. If anyone knows anything else about these, hit us up.

Threadbare - self titled CD

Threadbare played Rich Hall's birthday show last night in NYC, and in honor of the occasion, here is their self titled CD.  This is the CD version of the 7" that came out on Watermark and it was released by FurFace Records who also released the Disembodied - Existence In Suicide CD.  If the two CDs were produced in a similar manner, there are probably only 500 copies floating around.
Unlike the 7', this CD has three tracks.  The first two tracks appeared on the 7" and are re-recorded versions of songs from the Threadbare demo tape.  The third track is an eleven minute version of Penicillin which was actually pulled from the demo recording for this CD.

[FurFace Records - 1995]

I really wish I could have seen Threadbare play last night, as they are one of my favorite bands and they deserve far more attention than they seem to get.  Also, here's to hoping someone will finally pick up the ball and release a proper, full discography.
