Dark Hour 7"Syracuse, NY sure was a hotbed of vegan straight edge bands in the mid 90s. This 7" from Soulstice easily sits up there with the likes of Earth Crisis, Green Rage and Canon. You know what the 90s had lots of, and that I really miss a lot? Divebombs...yes, FUCKING DIVEBOMBS!!! For the love of everything I hold sacred, someone please bring back divebombs! These guys also put out a full length that I'll probably get around to ripping sometime soon, but in the meantime, enjoy these 3 songs of xvx chug.

Another Victim was always referred to as the "other vegan band from Syracuse". Ill tell you I would have been pretty annoyed if I were them but they really stepped out of the ExC shadow and wrote some pretty damn good songs. Its too bad that the 3 song demo they recorded before they broke up never got a proper release (except on the upcoming discography). Great band that Im glad I got to see a few times before they broke up

The Cold War comp 7"Just one of the many, many great comps that came out of the 90s. This one has the following 4 songs:
None Left Standing - Just Another War
Everlast - Crutch
Mean Season - Sea Of Shame (live)
Within A Lie - Him

Posted by xjustinx | File under : fortydaysrain, the year of our lord
fortydaysrain are a band that I have always felt were very underrated, at least definitely out here on the West Coast. I used to talk to their bass player, Al, back in the old days of the AOL hardcore chat rooms. This was long before the era of message boards and paypal preorders, and some pretty legendary and infamous things happened in those chat rooms. In the late 90s, bands were leaning closer and closer to metal sounds, and these guys played what I consider to be a perfect blend of heavy hardcore with well placed metal leads. As far as I can tell, this is everything they put out aside from some comp tracks that I never got my hands on, and for all I know, the songs on the comps may also be present on these releases.
Demo tape 1997
This tape has 4 songs, and I first got it out of my friend Matt's distro box sometime in 1997. A large part of me misses distros, and taking chances on bands that I had never heard of.

The Price Of Innocence 7"
For a record label that only managed to get out two releases, Even The Score records sure did a damn fine job. Kyle Score put out this record and the Falling Down 7" (who soon changed their name to Day Of Suffering). If you ever find a "Straight Edge means automatic weapons" shirt, send it to me, and I'll love you forever!

fortydaysrain/The Year Of Our Lord split 7"
This is one hell of a split 7 inch. fortydaysrain bust out a new song, and a re-recorded version of "Baptism" from their demo tape. The Year Of Our Lord were also bringing something pretty new to the table, in the form of black metal tinged hardcore. If memory serves me correctly, TYOOL also featured a member or two from the early Cave In lineup.

Temptation Of Our Own Demise
This cd initially came out on One Way Home Records, but quite quickly saw a re-release via East Coast Empire. The first 3 tracks were brand new ditties, followed by a mix of tracks from their previous releases. After this, the singer left, and was replaced by Rob Fusco (who had just left One King Down) for a brief period of time. Then one of the guitar players took over vocally, and fortydaysrain fizzled out without recording anything else.

Friction Burn FatalNew Age Records reigned supreme in the 90's. Just think about some of the legendary bands that had releases on New Age: Trial, Unbroken, Turning Point, Strife, etc. And even a lot of their lesser known releases were great as well. Case in point, this Grip 7 inch. Although there's some Krishna cheesiness here, and the lyrics leave a little something to be desired, this is a good example of what metallic hardcore was in the early-mid 90s.

So heres something a little different, after I said I'd change it up a bit after the last Earth Crisis post. Split Lip is still my favorite (along with Falling Forward) from the 90's Emo-Core days. Real aggressive music and real emotional lyrics. Speaking of Falling Forward, if anyone has the design that Initial Records did and is interested in selling, let me know

Okay one last Earth Crisis post. The original Victory "Firestorm" design. This is still one of my favorite designs from them and it shows as I have it in a tshirt, longsleeve, and hoodie. Also as an added bonus Im including the live set from Hellfest 2001. The original rip I did (which is the one that ended up on Soulseek) was not very good. I went back and cleaned it up as best I could and I think it sounds significantly better now. This is the entire set (audio only) from quite possibly the hottest show Ive ever been to. When you came out, steam literally rose off your head. Im glad I was there to witness it...I promise to take a break from the ExC posts and focus on something else unless something comes in the mail today.

I wasnt sure if anyone actually read this thing so Im very pleased with the comments that everyone has been leaving. So now that the Earth Crisis tour is official I figured Id post a few new things Id gotten in the past few days. The first is a design I already had but with a different back print. I was told that this design didnt go over so well and it was discontinued shortly after (not sure how acurate that is...Guav, little help?). The second was for the release of the live "The Oath That Keep Me Free" CD on Victory. This is also one that I already had but the print was so beat to hell that I needed an upgrade. Lastly, is a sticker sheet of very early sticker designs. Patrick "Reaper Records" Kitzel sent this to me because he's just an amazing guy and knows how much I love this band so gracias mi amigo. Im still waiting on a "315" pullover for over a month from someone on Ebay as well as another Conviction Records design courtesy of Mr. Mat Wadsworth of New Zealand and the Inherit The Wasteland tshirt from Sebastian in Germany. Pics when they arrive.
