In case you've been living under a rock for the last year, you might not have noticed that Good Fight has been busy signing up some of the best current bands in hardcore. They also recently put out a digital sampler with tracks from their new artists, friends of the label and even a remastered Disembodied track from an upcoming discography box set.
Stream the sampler below, and then look up these bands on their own pages.

I came across an old photo album that randomly had some (very few of the many) ticket stubs from some pretty awesome shows in the late 90's. Just thought I'd share.

I had a VHS tape sent to me by Ryan of Blasphemour Records last week.  Filmed by Ryan Adams of Crossthread, it contained full sets from Disembodied and Overcast at Metcafe in Providence, RI on 10/10/98.

And as a nice bonus, there was also a set of Meshuggah from 7/30/98 at Club Infinity in Springfield, MA.

Like a lot of hardcore kids in the 90's I collected fliers due to the fact that it was the only way to find out about shows. We weren't on the internet or our phones 24/7, we would go the record stores and see what fliers were there and that's how we got our information. That being said, I have a pretty large stack of fliers that used to be all over my walls. I occasionally post them on my instagram account (vinylxdenim) so here's a few if you haven't seen them yet. All from the late 90's in Southern California.

As was recently requested, here are full scans of the Disembodied - Existence In Suicide CDEP that came out on Furface Records in 1995.  The original post still contains working download links for anyone that missed it five years ago.  Of course, the songs were later remixed and remastered for the Psalms Of Sheol release on Prime Directive Records in 2010.

With Disembodied coming to an end at the Harvest reunion show in July, word is now coming down that members of Disembodied have joined up with members of Threadbare to form a new band called Xaphan.

The member lineup for Xaphan is:
Brian Lovro-Vocals
Joel Johnson- Guitar
Charlie Johnson- Guitar
Tara Johnson- Bass
Mike Paradise-Drums

For now, you can find them on Facebook, and there's also a BandCamp site that you should keep your eyes on.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm really excited to hear what comes out of this project.  Two of my all time favorite bands merging into one is bound to be heaven for my ears.

Minneapolis hardcore band Harvest is reuniting this summer for a show with Disembodied. Is it a one off or are they back? The description kinda hints that maybe they are (from the Facebook page: Twin Cities Hardcore favorites are back after a brief hiatus of only 12 years. They are ready to set off the next chapter in their legacy with this hometown show!).

Advance tickets will be available FRIDAY, APRIL 1 @ 11:00 a.m. CST. Limit two tickets per transaction. For more information, visit: http://www.twincitieshardcore.com/

To keep tabs on the event, click here: Harvest and Disembodied, back to destroy

EDIT: One of our readers, Cait Edge, sent us this from the Twin Cities Hardcore site

"In July, Harvest will be playing their first show since 1999. But this is not a reunion show. The band has reformed and is writing new material due to be released at the July show in M...inneapolis, MN. Vocalist Dave Walker, guitarist Dan Zimmerman and drummer Adam Patterson have been joined by guitarist Mike Duffy (Endeavor) and bassist Jon Mcaab (The Good Fight). As a group, Harvest was constantly evolving. The next phase has just begun."

A couple of weeks ago, Josh Trustkill tweeted something about going to a show the night before and noticing that all the boys looked like girls. I @ replied him and told him it was partially his fault, for signing some of the bands he did.
Before the major hits of 2000 that Trustkill dropped (The Opposite Of December..., The Bound Feed The Gagged, and Until the Ink Runs Out), they were already giving us the heaviest bands that hardcore had to offer. This postcard was to advertise three releases that really helped shape hardcore, but maybe aren't as talked about as they should be. Three splits, six of the best hardcore bands from the 90s.

Some interesting things about this card:
1. the Shai Hulud/ Another Victim split is listed as a 7". Maybe that was before the highly questionable punk rock covers were thrown on. Also, the AV cover of "boiling point" is FUCKING AWESOME
2.the Race Traitor/ Burn It Down split isnt listed for vinyl, but Goodlife did indeed release the 12" version.
3. the Disembodied/ BK split is listed as a 10", but came out as a 12". the colored vinyl version is one of the only Disembodied records that i dont own (holler at me)
4. the TK address is still in NJ, before his move to the 90s hardcore mecca of Syracuse.

did anyone actually fill this out and send it?

I had been waiting for something to come in the mail which is why it has taken some time for me to get to part 2 of this series I've star
ted. In case you missed part 1, you can go back and check it out here. To give a quick summary, this series of articles looks back at records that have been repressed with different covers and/or layouts. Now that we have moved into the age of digital downloads, it feels as if the layout is now an after thought and is no longer a necessary part of the album. I still enjoy sitting down and grabbing a handful of CDs and looking back through the layouts...they remind of great shows with people I was once close with though I may no longer see. Oh the nostalgia...anyway, on to part 2. As I stated before: Below are a few examples of records that were originally released by their respected labels and then repressed by either the original or another with a different layout. For now, I've just scanned the covers but Ill try to get the rest of the layouts scanned as well. The original is on the left and the repress is on the right.

Congress - Blackened Persistance (Original and Repress: Goodlife Recordings, 1996)
Congress were the first band that really put the Goodlife name on the map as well the infamous "H8000" scene. Loads of amazing bands were influenced by them in the 90s and they were definitely one of the best. Goodlife originally released "Blackened Persistence" in 1996 if memory serves and was a COMPLETE departure from your everyday run of the mill hardcore band layouts. I mean, look at the cover. Its got a freaking wizard on the cover. Amazing. The original release shows the entire painting of the wizard with his arms in the air, floating over what looks like a planet. This release became one of Goodlife's best selling release to the point that Edward couldn't keep it in stock. It was eventually re-released a short time later, this time with a live set attached to the original record. The cover, this time, shows just the face of the wizard as the cover. Normally, I wouldn't agree with this but its not a huge change and they did keep the original artwork as well as the rest of the layout. Overall, not much of a downgrade and an overall great album.

Split Lip (Chamberlain) - Fate's Got A Driver (Original and Repress: Doghouse Records, 1995)
Shifting gears a little, Split Lip was one of those bands that came along at the right time and just blew everyone's minds with their brand of Midwest emocore (this is back when you didn't actually cringe when someone called a band "emo"). After a 7 inch and 2 full lengths (not counting the discography of sorts), Split Lip changed their name to Chamberlain and their sound began to change as well. The band had just released their 2nd album, Fate's Got A Driver, when they chose to change their name. The band decided to re-release the album under the new name, Chamberlain, and re-record the vocals in the newer singing style that they had adopted. Again, the layout isn't a drastic change from the original though they used different photos. I do love the fact that they included a small photo of the original Split Lip cover on the last page of the insert. The original comes in a nice digipak while the Chamberlain release came in a standard jewelcase. I have no real opinion on this one since they are no photos of the band playing live in either release and the layouts are similar though I think I do prefer the cover of the original release.

Another Victim "For The Liars And The Cheaters" Demo (Self Released, 2000)
I know I've been a little wishy-washy with the other two records I've posted so far but now here we go, this is where I get down to it. Another Victim released these 3 songs as their final release before disbanding for the second time and forming the Promise. The songs really shows the direction the band was heading and to be honest, I would have loved to hear another record with the lineup on this demo. Anyway, the first cover shows some chain links...nothing special. But...the Japanese, my wonderful friends from the East got the ultimate treatment. A beautiful full color layout (minus the lyrics side) with fold out wings!!!! This was limited to 75 copies and was labeled as the Japanese demo. A collaborative art layout by GrezDNA, JD and Derrick Van Wie...Americans, we should all feel cheated for the having to receive the original layout as opposed to the Japanese version. Absolutely beautiful.

Disembodied "Diablerie" (Original and Repress: Ferret Records, 1996 and 1999)
Name a band heavier than Disembodied...go on, I'll wait. Yeah. not easy to do. One of the few bands that I've ever found to be as heavy recorded as they are live. But upon hearing Diablerie for the first time, you could tell it was heavy but it just need to be louder. The mastering of the original definitely wasn't anything to shake a stick at but it did the job. When the remaster came out, it sounded as it always should have (by the way, I still don't own a copy of the remaster so if anyone has one to sell, get at me). The layout for the original release is...well, interesting to say the least. What looks like a mannequin on the cover engulfed by a blue-ish background. A small live photo in the insert and the lyrics. The re-release received an all new layout including a change from blue to red and what looks like some sort of religious statue on the front. I haven't seen the insert in many years but I remember there being an angel in the insert. Overall, I prefer the cover of the re-release to the original.

Stay tuned for part 3 coming hopefully sooner than it took me to write part 2.

Happy Memorial Day everyone. Im heading out to meet up with some friends for a relaxing day but thought everyone would wanna see this. Disembodied played the Chain Reaction (their second home) in Anaheim, CA this past Friday before heading up to play Rain Fest. At the end of their set, our very own trouble maker Jav came out as did Marc Jackson and the band ran through 2 Martyr AD songs. The band just put the songs up on Youtube so here you go, enjoy. Everyone have a safe holiday.

I had never heard of Beg For Life until last summer with the exception of my friend Luis who was into them. The band is from Yuma, Arizona and was on tour with The Hoods. Luis told me they sound like Disembodied...I've heard that so many times since the band got back together so I figured I'd go to the show to hang out and see. I went to my car for one reason or another as they were setting up and I heard the band begin, opening up with "Seven Stitches" by Disembodied. I kinda opened my eyes real wide and ran into the club. The band ran through their set, completely destroying everything in their path. I was impressed to say the least and I made it a point to talk to them afterwards. I sat outside and spoke with Jeff and Eddie for about 2 hours. Great guys who seriously love hardcore...okay just wanted to give you a short rundown on how I first heard them.
To get a good understanding of the band, take the best elements of All Out War (the apocalyptic lyrics and Slayer guitar parts), Disembodied (the slow sludgy heavy riffs) and Martyr AD (the speed and discordance) but adding a fresh take on the sound that many bands today seem to lack. Don't get me wrong, the band does draw heavy influences from the aforementioned bands but definitely is not a clone. The recording is excellent, everything can be clearly heard and is distinct. At the time I saw them, they did not have the record available so Eddie sent me the MP3s. I can't comment on the layout since I don't have it but the cover of the record looks like the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Lyrically, the band speaks of Hell and the world going to hell in a hand basket. Very dark stuff. Overall, the record is one of my favorites of last year and I really hope the band continues to get on tours. They are hardworking and are single handedly building a scene in small Yuma. If you still dig bands that play that 90s style of metallic hardcore but with a early 2000's feel, you are probably going to like this. Highly recommended. You can check out songs from the record by clicking here and going to their Myspace.
You can order the record and pick up some shirts by checking out their Merch Store.
