As you may recall, we posted an unreleased Bloodlet track that was unearth in the vaults of Ron Brotherhood recently.  In preparation for their one-time reunion show at the annual A389 bash, A389 Records will be releasing the track on a 7".  Here's the press release:

Following the recent proclamation that defunct metalcore pioneers, Bloodlet, will make a special one-time appearance -- reuniting for the A389 Recordings X Bash in January -- today, the label also proudly confirms two special pending releases from the band in 2014.

First up, A389 will release an unreleased Bloodlet demo, recorded in 1994. The track, called "Embrace," was recorded with several other songs prior to the release of the band's debut LP, Entheogen. A track which ran astray from the others recorded in the same sessions -- "Shell" and "Cheribum" appearing on the band's Shell 7", and then re-appeared on their Eclectic singles compilation LP -- Bloodlet's early, completely inventive style of ominous, swamp-born metalcore is relived once again in "Embrace." The lost track was discovered by hardcore webzine XStuckInThePastX and shared the masters with A389 Recordings, who will now release an official 7" version of the track in January 2014. The Embrace 7" will tie directly into band's first performance in over ten years, with their one-time reunion at the A389 X Bash the weekend of January 17th and 18th in Baltimore, Maryland, joining the reunion of Integrity's Systems Overload lineup, All Out War, Infest, Haymaker, Noisem, Full Of Hell, Empire of Rats and tons more.

In addition, A389 is also collaborating with Victory Records on a special reissue of Bloodlet's landmark debut LP, Enthogen, which Victory initially released in early 1996. The new edition will be released in a deluxe 2xLP in the coming months pending the completion of the remastering sessions, currently going down at Audiosiege.

Bloodlet vocalist Scott Angelacos currently remains busy with his present bands Junior Bruce -- who is working on the follow-up to their The Headless King LP, released in 2012 by A389 -- and Hollow Leg, which just released Abysmal on Last Anthem Records.

We'll post more info as soon as we have it!

If you check old zine ads for Ron Brotherhood's old label, Overkill Records, you'll see that Bloodlet's "Eclectic" record was originally slated to come out through him.  In the mid-90s, Ron spent lots of time on the road, tour managing for the likes of Orange 9mm and Seaweed.  At a Seaweed show in Tampa, FL, Ron was approached by Charlie of Bloodlet, who had just recently put out the Husk 7" on Structure Records.  Later, they sent him a cassette with three tracks that were recorded in May of 1994.  The first two tracks were released as the Shell 7" on Stability Records, and eventually on the Eclectic LP.

Ron told me that the initial plan was for Bloodlet to re-record some things, so he sent them $3,500 for studio time.  They then asked for a $1,500 more, which Ron also sent.  However, being out on the road constantly made for really poor communication between the label and band, which was becoming increasingly stressful on Ron, as he had a number of releases in the works.  The record eventually got taken over by Victory Records.  Although $4,000 of the $5,000 was from Dutch East, Ron decided it was time to fold the label.  Dutch East chose to make their money back by taking over all future pressing of Integrity - Those Who Fear Tomorrow, and they also went forward with the pressing of the Impel cd.  Undertow went to Excursion Records, Botch's 'Faction' 7" went to World Of Hurt (and the Unifying Themes cd on Excursion), Canon - The Solution went to Chapter Records, Ringworm - The Promise went to Bill Baker of Jayhawker's label, Incision Records.

This all ties in, because, as mentioned before, there are three tracks on the tape that Bloodlet sent to Ron.  "Shell" and "Cheribum" were released on the Shell 7", and the same two tracks also kicked off the Eclectic CD/LP on Victory Records.  But, the third track contained on the cassette, "Embrace" never appeared anywhere, and from what I can tell, was never re-recorded for any of the future albums.  Unless, of course, they very heavily changed it, but I don't hear any such indication when listening to the Bloodlet catalog.

I've spent way too much time going through my old cd's today, but luckily for you, that means a lot of downloads will be posted in the future. Definitely Not The Majors came out in 1997 from Bush League Records and is chalked full of great tracks. Any comp that starts off with Bloodlet and Coalesce is a winner in my book. This link was posted back in 2008, but for those of you that missed it, here it is again: Definitely Not The Majors: Click here for download

Someone asked about the Bloodnation project, a side band for members of Bloodlet and Damnation AD. I dont really know much about it but this song was on a compilation called "Squirrel" (or at least thats the folder its in). How many songs did the record? No clue. Did they ever play a show? Not sure...if anyone has info to post, please let us know.

I got this off of my friend Niels and to be honest I don't know much about it. I was never a huge Bloodlet fan but this design was cool so I traded him for it. No Victory markings so Im assuming its pre-Victory though it does have the Bloodlet logo from the Victory releases. If anyone has any info, pass it on.

Bloodlet is one of my all time favorite bands. I scanned this interview from The Tribute fanzine, from Florida (Chip may have some info on the zine, i do not)
It's kind of a cool interview is cool because it kind of goes a little deeper and lets you see what the members of the band were about. Kind of "demystifies" them. Also, it explains what a couple of songs are about. Enjoy.

Since Jav put up the Bloodlet live 7 inch, I thought it would be a good idea to continue the trend and put up an interview from Rumpshaker #3. Again, Ive expressed how great this zine is/was as Eric conducted his interviews with a sense of humor able to ask serious questions but still keep the read fun (quote: Eric "Theres no happiness in Bloodlet?") . There is nothing worse than a stuffy interviewer asking the same questions to each band about the same topics. Here's an interview with Bloodlet from Rumpshaker zine #3, 1995
