I pulled out a VHS last night of a smaller Northwest Hardcore show that happened at Stage 4 Theater in Portland back on 3/20/98.  On tape were Last Man Standing, Backside Disaster and Left With Nothing.

This is one of my all time favorite 7"s that I own. Cave In / Botch - In These Black Days Volume 5. Black Sabbath covers N.I.B. by Cave In and The Wizard by Botch. There was a one time pressing of 3000, 340 in this version. It was recorded at God City in the winter of 1999. Hydra Head 16.

Here's another gem from the DAT archive of releases that were scheduled to come out on Overkill Records.

Bowel featured the Melnicks, Tony Pines and Mean Steve.  I would say that it can be best described as the Melnick's tongue-in-cheek take on early 90's death metal/grindcore with some excellent mid-paced stomp parts thrown in as well.

After Overkill Records folded, Rotten Fecal Duct was released on Dark Empire Records as an 8 track cd that also had an unreleased record from The Guns tacked on at the end.  An interesting bit to note here is that this DAT tape contains 8 tracks, but only lists 6 in the handwritten notes.  Combine that with the 2 minutes of silence prior to tracks 7/8, and I'm lead to believe that McDonalds Massacre and Enema Abortion were originally intended to be hidden tracks on the Overkill release, as opposed to the regularly listed tracks they became on the Dark Empire version.

With all that said, here's Bowel - Rotten Fecal Duct remastered from the master DAT tape.

Looking back, the early days of Harkonen seems like a wild ride.  Although they became well known as a three piece associated with Hydra Head Records, between 1996 and 1999, Harkonen had a multitude of lineup changes that saw various singers and guitar players come and go.  Due to familial relations, this was also the period of time where it wasn't uncommon to hear someone refer to Harkonen as "baby Botch".

Recorded in October of 1996 at Uptone Studios, this demo isn't really lacking anything in the sound department, and is a great representation of Harkonen at their earliest.

Our friends in 7 Generations have just released their final EP. This was recorded just before the band broke up but never saw the light of day. The EP will be available today (December 21, 2013) at 12 noon PST. Here's what the band had to say regarding the EP:

"Dear friends

Over the course of our final year as a band, we had recoded some songs that were never released. As of December 2013 they will be available as a digital download for a $1 or up donation to One Hundred for Haiti. If the alleviation of the suffering of the Haitian people since the 2010 earthquake is something you would like to contribute to, or if you would be interested in our unreleased ep, please do consider making a donation on the 21st. Thank you very much.

"Hate on and love through unrepining hours"

The band then follow up their first post with this just moments ago:

"Hello friends,

Just a reminder that today at 12:00 noon (west coast US time) 7 Generations' heretofore unreleased ep "Love Through Unrepining Hours" will be available for download for a $1 or up donation to One Hundred for Haiti. Donations can be made at sevengenerations.bandcamp.com

Thank you."

Again, the EP will be available today (December 21, 2013) at 12 Noon PST. We're looking forward to hearing the EP and I'll be donating to this great cause...hope you will too.

Florida-based metallic hardcore outfit Blistered has just announced their signing with 6131 Records, a label based out of Los Angeles, California, joining the likes of Strife, Downpresser, Rotting Out, and more. The band has also released a new track, entitled "Rusted", that can be found on the 12" EP "Soul Erosion" coming out in March.

Blistered is heavily influenced by bands like Buried Alive, Morning Again, and Chokehold, and is sure to appeal to fans of 90's metalcore.

Now that we're all aware that the Systems Overload lineup of Integrity are playing the A389 Records bash in January, some more great news has come to light in the form of a new track recorded by said lineup.

A snippet of  Beyond The Realm Of The VVitch can now be heard on the A389 bandcamp page, and a one sided 7" will be released in time for the bash with a skull etched b-side.
