Someone asked me to re-up the Slugfest CD but after going back and searching, I couldn't find the original post. I figured this was just easier so here we are. I did an interview with Scott Vogel, vocalist for the band, and all we talked about was Slugfest. If you'd like to go back and get some info on the band, you can do so by click below:

Interview with Scott Vogel about Slugfest and Fadeaway

The band was only around for a short time, recording a demo and a 7 inch (titled "Buried Alive") before breaking up in 1993 (if I remember correctly). Scott joined Fadeaway and then Despair. During his time in Despair, the band got back together and recorded 4 songs that they had written before they broke up initially.

I can't remember if this was initially advertised as a discography of sorts but it's definitely incomplete. It's missing the demo and the after-the-fact live 7 inch from the reunion show in 1997. I never did quite understand the cover of the record...either way, this was released by Initial Records in 1996 when Despair was releasing material with them. Reaper Records was supposed to release a complete discography but I think that idea has been scrapped unfortunately.

I went back and re-ripped the original CD as a VBR so it's nice and loud and I also scanned the ENTIRE layout (tray card and CD included) and included those in the download. The lyrics are printed across a 3 panel insert so it may be a little difficult to follow along but you get those as well. If this is your first time hearing Slugfest, don't expect Terror but more a (mostly) slowed down, chug heavy record of pissed off hardcore featuring members of Snapcase, Terror, Buried Alive, Despair and a slew of other Buffalo bands.

I've been pretty busy and unfortunately neglecting this more than I would like to so for that I apologize. Anyway, someone requested the Hourglass 7 inch that Immigrant Sun released back in 1997-ish (correct me if I'm wrong). Listening back for the first time in many years, its a lot screamier than I remember it being but definitely still good. I guess it's appropriate that they did a split with New Day Rising. Future members of Buried Alive bring you 5 songs of screamy hardcore.

Edit - xjustinx:  I ripped my personal copy at 320k and scanned the cover for a new download link.

If you'd like to see the rest of the layout, click here. Sean, if you still have copies of this for sale, let me know and I'll take down the download link.

Over the past few years, we've seen a large resurgence in bands taking influence from the 90s as well the ideas that were often discussed. One of the bands I've been listening to heavily as of late is Axis, a newer band based out of central Florida featuring ex-members of Meantime. If you dig bands like Buried Alive and Turmoil, then you're going to like this. The singer reminds me a lot of Dave Walker from Harvest also...defintiely a band to watch for in the next year, I'm expecting big things from them. If you want to give them a listen, head on over to their bandcamp page and check it out, you won't be disappointed.

Foundation is one of the small amount of bands over the last 5 years that I not only enjoy but respect immensely. These know their 90s hardcore and have a great respect for the bands who came before them. I asked Hank Pratt, guitar player for Foundation, what his favorite 90's hardcore record is and here's what he had to say:
"It's very hard to pick my favorite record from the 90s because I just love so many. If I had to pick I guess it would be Buried Alive's "The Death of Your Perfect World". This record is perfect beginning to end. It starts off with a banger and ends with a banger. And lets not forget that sweet guest spot on "To Live and Die With" by who better than, Jamie Jasta. This record had been stuck in my brain since the first day I heard it. It's not just the recording that sounds awesome, tt's the intensity of the record that keeps me listening every time. The guitar tone, drums, lyrics, and vocals can not be fucked with. I had always loved Scott's other bands, but this record just stuck out for me. It's just so heavy! Every time I hear the end of "Empty Sky" I want to kick some one's head off of their body. Really, there are multiple parts on this record that make me want to do that. I listen to this record almost daily and it just never loses its flair."
Foundation will be releasing their new album in April on Bridge 9 Records.

The recently reunited Kid Gorgeous has posted a brand new demo track. The band, which features members of Buried Alive and Despair, is going to post 2 more new songs in the next few weeks. Until then, go check out the new track, "Mermaids With A Switchblade".

As mentioned in a post last year, I love ATL's Foundation. Awesome dudes who love the core and tour their asses off finally get the recognition they deserve by signing with Bridge 9 Records. Here's a statement from Bridge 9:

Things are busy here at Bridge Nine Records and we are more than excited to announce another addition to our roster - Atlanta's straight edge hardcore stalwarts Foundation. No strangers to to the road, Foundation has been seen on tour all over the country; most notably with Bane and on Have Heart's final string of shows last Fall. B9 Owner Chris Wrenn said, "We couldn't be happier to sign Foundation - these guys have been working hard over the last few years and officially caught our attention last summer when we were all blown away by their live show. It's important for us as a label to have a solid, straight edge hardcore band and Foundation is the best band in that genre right now. Champion and Have Heart did great things for Bridge Nine in the past decade and after their demise we are excited to pass the torch over to Foundation."

Foundation will be gearing up for a full US tour in May and June alongside Backtrack and Rotting Out before they head to the studio to record their Bridge Nine Records debut. With two releases under their belt (Hang Your Head 7" and S/T 7" on Six Feet Under Records) and influences such as Unbroken and Buried Alive, Foundation's first proper full-length is sure to be one of the best straight-forward hardcore records of the year. Drummer Champ Hammett said, "We can't wait to finish and record the new LP and tour non-stop - we want to hit all the fests and cover the US, hopefully Europe and other parts of the world. Get ready to see us everywhere in 2010 and beyond."

You check out some tunes on their Myspace page. Congrats to my dudes.
