I'll admit I didn't know who Counterweight was when they were around. They were a vegan (I'm going to assume also straight edge) band from Poland that released this record, "The Flames of Victory" in 1999 on Sanctuary Records. I picked this up maybe 3-4 years ago when our friend xYosefx decided to unload all of his old CDs (where are you man?). Musically, its a good mixture of the 90s Syracuse chug and late 90s European metal (Arkangel, Liar) with a little Day of Suffering thrown in there. The lyrics are in English but all of the liner notes are in Polish. Vocals kinda remind me of Dan Gump from Excessive Force. Good recording to boot...my scanner needs to be replaced so I'll try to get my wife to scan the layout tonight on hers. Until then, enjoy this. If anyone knows anymore about the band, let me know...I'd like to know more.

*EDIT:  I got my wife to do the scans last night. I had her scan the insert as well the traycard and made them a SEPARATE download which can be found below.

If you dig this, our friend Henrik posted their demo "Sculptured In Blood" on his blog "Bring Honour Or Walk Away". Unfortunately, he hasn't updated in a while but it's still got some killer demos posted, provided the links still work. Pick up the demo by clicking the link above to go to his blog.

Here's a pretty sweet H8000 record, the split 7" between arguably the 2 most well-known H8000 bands, Congress & Liar. It was given out at the 2002 edition of the H8000 Fest, in a limited run of 500 copies. This handing out of a free record happened at all the H8000 Fests (1994, 2002, 2003 & 2007). Hans Liar wrote up a post with some more information on it on his blog, so check that out if you want more info. The result is an awesome split 7", with the Liar side as my personal fave, but the Congress track is also great. As mentioned in Hans' post, both tracks would later be re-recorded by the bands. I also have the compilation 7"s that were handed out at the 2003 & 2007 editions of the H8000 Fest, I might post those at some point if there's a demand for them.

I apologize for my lack of posts lately but Ive been tending to the renovations of my new house and that has basically taken all of my time. Today I bring you an interview with Blindfold, a band from Belgium that was known for featuring future members of H8000 favorites, Liar. This was originally printed in Clear Path zine #1, April 1994. I did the best I could when scanning but the way it was stapled made it hard to read at times. You get the idea...enjoy

As I was going through my CDs trying to find something to upload, I came across this which I hadn't heard in quite some time. This was released by Genet Records (who may or may not be defunct now) to commemorate the 1998 Ieper Festival in Belgium. All of the bands that played were recorded but according to the liner notes, Seein' Red & Reply were not happy with the sound quality so they were left off the release. This features a total of 27 songs from some of the best US and European bands of the time including Culture, Arkangel, Congress, Liar, Earthmover, Firestone and more. Some of the songs are unreleased to this day or were rewritten. Definitely a great glimpse into the time. I ripped the release at 256 kbps so its nice and loud. I also did a high quality scan of the cover. I looked and could not find this for sale anywhere so please if anyone finds a link to purchase this, let me know and I'll remove the link. Until then, enjoy this great release.
