With the upswing in an easy ability to create and maintain websites in the mid 2000s, print zines saw a very sharp decline around the same time.  Although there were at least three horrible zines for every great one out there, the internet created a wasteland of over-exerted opinions in the form of livejournal, blogger (yes, I know) and wordpress.  Rumpshaker ended its run in 1999 prior to this changing of the guard, and it was always a shining example of what a great zine should be.

Fast forward 13 years, and Rumpshaker has come back with issue number six, and Eric doesn't seem to have missed a beat at all.  At 144 pages, it's a lot to take in, but just like the days of yore, he has packed it with great content.

Interviews with Mike Judge, Limp Wrist and Sick Of It All are the standouts for me, simply due to my affection for the subjects at hand.  Even with the bands I have little to no interest in, Eric has continued to hold my interest by asking questions that aren't run of the mill and found in every single other interview out there.  However, that's nothing new for Rumpshaker, and is one of the qualities that always set it above and beyond most other zines in my eyes.

In one of the most intriguing ongoing segments in memory, Eric once again interviewed three musicians (Walter Schreifels, Dan Yemin and Chuck D) and their mothers.  Getting an inside look into how a mother views their child getting into and progressing with underground culture is heavily interesting, and always made me look forward to the next issue of Rumpshaker, of which hopefully there will be another.

The bottom line here is that Rumpshaker came out of the box 13 years later with a top notch zine.  Pick it up!

After many years of speculation and rumors, the self titled Handsome record will finally be released on vinyl by 6131 Records.  They currently have a shirt up for pre-order, and the record will surely follow suit shortly.  Let's all keep our fingers crossed that the two tracks from the European bonus CD will be included as well.

There's been a ton of great new bands coming out of the UK the past few years. Ark Of The Covenant, xRepentancex, Abolition, xSaboteurx, Broken Teeth, Natural Order, the list goes on and on. You can now add Renounced to that list. They just released their first EP, Conditioned From Birth, which will be available in physical formats soon, and it's awesome.

I asked singer Dan for some background information on the band:
Firstly can I just say thank you for your interest in our band, personally I have been a little overwhelmed by the response we have been given thus far from people in the community. Im not too sure where to start with this bio business, but I will try to keep it short and as interesting as possible.  Every member of the band is in they're 20's and like most of people around this age who got into punk or heavy music in general, we where brought up listening to bands such as: Converge, Poison The Well,  Bane, 7A7P, Eighteen Visions, This Day Forward, Norma Jean, and arguably one of the heaviest bands of all time, Martyr AD (members of Disembodied) . I remember when I was 15, a friend of mine brought over the HellFest 2002 VHS and I watched kids run of a stage and mash each other out, to an era of hardcore which in my option was one of the best. Now don't get me wrong, give me some Infest, Insect Warfare  or youth crew punk band any day of the week and I will listen to it just as much. But there is something about a decent discord that just talks to me.  Usually this frantic array of guitar work was then juxtaposed with beautiful piano pieces or melodic slowness which made records of this era a bit more rounded to listen to. In my personal opinion Metalcore died after this era and apart from a few remaining bands, has been lost in the bullshit found day to day in any of the commercially driven magazines that fits that stereotypically boring, deluded, death metal/ new metal/ tattooed/ beatdown bands of today. We are not vegan or an  edge band, although a few members of the band are. I am very lucky to be playing with such talented musicians. Sam Knight used to play in the UK band Abolition as well as many other bands, and our drummer Jack is just ridiculous. I went round his house when we where looking for a drummer and handed him Jhazmyne's Lullaby by 7 Angels 7 plagues and asked if he could play it. About two days later he replied with 'yes'. (If you dont know who Jared Logan is, check out his bands: Compromise, 7a7p and Martyr AD, amazing drummer) Our bass player, Martin and second guitarist, Daniel, churn our ridiculous riffs all day and we all get on really well which is essential.  I feel like i'm waffling and this is all very boring to read and I have written I to many times.  Apologies if this is the case.

We are currently nervously playing a shows here and there around the UK. Shout out to Atonement records, who are putting out some of the hardest stuff at the moment. Our EP CONDITIONED FROM BIRTH is out now for free download from their store. Please come and let some aggression out at one of our shows if you have the chance. We all would be very grateful. Thank you to anyone who has taken the time to read this.

In short, Renounced is 5 dudes playing early 2000's politically driven emotional metalcore for the damaged spin kicker. Apparently we also have a Facebook page which is much to my disapproval as I feel hardcore/punk and social media should not mix for shit.

Do yourself a favor and check out Renounced!

It's pretty rare to come across an uncirculated video that is of good quality, but last night at the Bolt Thrower show in Seattle, Ron Guardipee gave me his 8mm master tape of Rage Against The Machine playing in Seattle on 4/12/93, and he had a great vantage point for filming.  If you dig RATM, I'm sure you'll love this.

Acme was a relatively short-lived metalcore band from Bremen, Germany, who formed in 1991 and disbanded in 1994 (or was it '95?). Information regarding the band is almost as hard to come by as their music, leaving a sense of mystery and obscurity to future listeners. Acme crafted "the Bremen sound" and were highly influential for not only bands of that scene, but metalcore bands in general. They had a very thin discography, but in 1996, Edison Recordings released all of their recorded material under the name "...to Reduce the Choir to One Soloist".

In this post, I'd like to share the tracks that Acme released on several long out-of-print compilations, all of which were released in 1994.

First up is "Cathode," a track that was featured on the "No Desire to Continue Living" 10" compilation, released on German-based label Farewell Records as a benefit for anti-military groups. This record also featured bands like Man is the Bastard, Rorschach, and Capitalist Casualties.

Next is "Bastardiser," originally featured on the German-based Plot Fanzine Compilation.

Lastly, "Repress" is a song taken from the "All the President's Men" 12" compilation on Old Glory Records, a label based out of Vermont.
