In honor of Stretch playing their last show a few weeks back, I though it would be cool to go back and listen to possibly the best cover they recorded. In 1999, Stretch Arm Strong released arguably their best record, "Rituals of Life", and promptly blew up. After listening through, we came to track 12 which was unlisted and turned out to be a cover of "Melt With You" by Modern English. Stretch always had a knack for taking a pop song and turning it into a real raging cover (listen to their cover of N.W.A.'s song "Express Yourself" from the Too Legit For The Pit comp) and this was the first of many to follow. Later pressings of the Rituals had the cover song removed probably for copyright reasons. Is that the reason? Not sure but it would be my assumption that it is. Either way, its a great cover. When the record came out, they would play this live and when they did, the place literally exploded (especially during the handclaps...yes I said the handclaps). You can still pick up the record and its still a good one, 11 years later.

Nice cover. I was moshing from time to time to their version of "Get this party started", that one is a killer.

I saw a video of Josh from Evergreen terrace propose to his girlfriend, and immediately after Stretch Arm Strong played the "Melt with You" cover....it was just so sweet. sooo sweet.

They wouldn't have to pull it for copyright reasons.

A band can cover any song they want -- they just have to pay royalties on it (which may be the reason they pulled it).

The only hc band covering a non-hc song that isn't laughably bad (that I've heard anyway) is Damnation covering "Cold" by the Cure. Everything else just seems like a cruel joke on music.

Anonymous: Yeah thats the direction I was going. The band was getting bigger so the label was probably being pressured to pay royalties. Solid State drops the song from the record...again, thats just my opinion but Im pretty sure thats what happened
