I wanna say they were from Michigan. Im not 100% but Im almost positive they were...they also released a record called Need which Ill up a little later. They may have released something else but I cant remember off the top of my head Thanks :)
Wow, finally someone to up this great record...thanx dude, I had this CD like 10 years ago (simple minds cover is funny :)), but it's lost for a long time
I have all their records, including a promo pressing of the 1st album, that sounds quite different from the official mixing. It came out in green marbled vinyl and without sleeve (but with booklet). I had the fortune to get the last copy by mail from 1 of the members of the band; on the other side, unfortunately one of the tracks has a big scratch!! But the mix version of the promo is really awesome, rougher than the offical version. About the Simple Minds cover on the 2nd album, I never liked at all that band, anche this cover version too is unlistenable to me!!!
Hey! I also played guitar in this band. I was only on the first 7" and one left over track from that session ended up on this LP. I quit the band and then they got Drew on guitar. Not that anyone gives a shit...haha...

They were from Detroit. The singer Jay Palumbo later went on to By the Grace of God, Elliott, and 32 Frames
havent heard this in 10 years...thank you so much for posting this man
empathy was a midwest US band, with 2 full elngths on conquer the world recs.
i think the other album was called "i need" and it was hard to find even back then.
For those interested i am just selling their both releases on ebay. I use to distribute CTW's releases in the past and it was a pretty good label.
I put out the first Empathy 7 inch ".of innocence" on Element Records probably about 14yrs ago. scary to think about.
XXX
I played in this band! Yes, we were a Detroit band.
Besides Elliott and By the Grace of God, other members went on to play in Thoughts of Ionesco.
Great to see we're remembered.
Someone has to rip that first 7"!!! ithis is the first time i hear of it and i wanna hear it!!!

Ops... I made a mistake: the SIMPLE MINDS cover is on the 1st album, not the 2nd...
It's been announced that Empathy will be playing a reunion set at the 32 Frames reunion show in Louisville, KY this Friday. So awesome.
The "reunion" was sans both guitar players.
